POSITION: DISTRICT DIRECTOR OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

DESCRIPTION

This is professional work that requires the thorough planning, coordination and supervision of teacher in-service education, paraprofessional training and general staff development and training in an effort to insure the maintenance of high standards of excellence. Supervision for this position is received from the District Superintendent. Work in this class requires a high degree of collaboration and communication with management, stakeholders and off island consultants. A significant amount of independent judgment is expected. Person selected must be very well organized, able to multi-task and develop and maintain records on the effectiveness of training activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

  • Develop a needs assessment process and create an instructional design process with appropriate delivery methods and post training evaluations;
  • Recommend solutions for performance issues and potential areas of training;
  • Assist District Superintendent with designing, developing, and implementing training programs based on analysis;
  • Arrange conferences, professional development and technical assistance activities;
  • Meets regularly with administrators , supervisors and teachers to establish goals and identify training needs;
  • Coordinates the establishment of procedures, timetable and all other elements of in-service training and staff development and functions as the clearing officer for training and staff development activities;
  • Regularly prepares and submit reports on staff development activities;
  • Acts as the liaison between the department, other organizations and agencies when implementing training programs;
  • Work with the office accountant in preparing and administering the program budget;
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids and other educational materials;
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the competitive bidding process when conducting business with a governmental agency;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (proficiency in excel and publisher);
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels and all persons contacted during the course of work;
  • Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, and self-directed;
  • Ability to encourage and motivate others;
  • Ability to demonstrate practical experience in technical and non-technical training;
  • Excellent presentation and public-speaking skills;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in carrying out functions of the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Education or Supervision/ Administration and five (5) years of progressively independent work where communication and collaboration were the primary aspects of the employment
