About Us

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s Office of Public Relations and Communications exists to heighten the public’s awareness of the Department’s mission to ensure that all students are prepared for college or the career of their choice upon graduation from high school.

In support of the mission, the Public Relations Office provides publicity for events, activities and the many successes of the Department’s schools, students, teachers, employees and leadership through internal and external communication.

The Office of Public Relations and Communication, through an integrated marketing communications approach services the marketing, branding, public, and media relations, advertising and graphic design needs of the Department, districts, and schools.

The Public Relations Office reports directly to the Commissioner of Education.

 

St. Croix School District Announces Important End of Semester Dates

The St. Croix Public School District announces the end of the semester dates for all public schools in the district. Insular Superintendent of the St. Croix District, Ericilda Ottley-Herman, Ed. D, shares the following important updates and reminders to all students, parents, faculty, and staff:

 

Instructional Day on December 20, 2023:

  • December 20, 2023, will be designated as an instructional day in the St. Croix Public School District. This day will serve as one of the makeup days for any lost instructional time. Students, parents, faculty, and staff are asked to be mindful of this scheduling adjustment.

 

Final Exams Schedule:

  • Final exams for Grades 9th - 12th will be administered on December 13th – 14th.
  • Final exams for Grades 7th - 8th will be administered on December 14th – 15th.

 

Report Card Distribution:

  • Report cards for the current semester will be distributed on December 20, 2023.

St. Thomas-St. John District Announces Asynchronous Learning for Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Due to Funeral Service

The St. Thomas-St. John District informs the public that the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School (BCBMS) will engage in asynchronous learning on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. The school campus will be closed on Wednesday to allow faculty and staff to attend the funeral service of   Ms. Nydia Lewis, a BCBMS Special Education teacher. Students will not physically report to school on Wednesday, November 29th. All students will be assigned asynchronous learning activities and instructions from teachers in preparation for Wednesday.

 

The Virgin Islands Department of Education expresses condolences to the family, friends, loved ones, former colleagues, and former students of Ms. Lewis. Recognized as a dedicated and caring educator, Ms. Lewis began her tenure at the VIDE at the Charlotte Amalie High School and then transferred to the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School. Her commitment and compassion for students continued at the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle, which later became her school home. Ms. Lewis will especially be remembered for her unwavering and stellar work ethic.

 

As the Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School mourns the passing of Ms. Lewis, we reflect on her legacy and treasure her impact as an educational trailblazer. We thank all students and parents for their understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.
