Reopening of 2020-2021 School Year for Public School Students Delayed One Week

In keeping with Governor Albert Bryan Jr’s August 29 extension of the territory’s Stay-at-Home Order, the Virgin Islands Department of Education has delayed the start of public schools for one week, with classes beginning on Mon., Sept. 14, and not Tues., Sept. 8. All students will learn from home, as previously announced. 

Both School Districts 

  • All school-based employees will report on September 8 
  • A virtual meeting scheduled for parents of students receiving Special Education services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 on the Department’s Facebook Live platform, as originally planned 

St. Thomas-St. John District 

  • Virtual orientations will be conducted during the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 4, as originally planned 
  • Laptop, Mifi, desk and chair distribution – September 9 – 11, 2020 

St. Croix District 

  • Laptop, Mifi desk and chair distribution – September 9 
  • Virtual orientations for secondary students - September 10 
  • Virtual orientations for elementary students - September 11

The Department of Education reminds the community to adhere to the governor’s Stay-at-Home Order, wear a mask or facial covering when in public, wash hands frequently, and practice social distancing.
